The Executive Members of the University Secretarial Staff Association (USSA), UNIZIK Chapter, on Wednesday, 10th July 2024 paid a courtesy visit to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ikechebelu.
The Union led by its Chairperson, Comrade Ufom Okon Udoh, briefed the Vice-Chancellor on the association’s objectives as a professional body, expressing their commitment to aligning with his vision of “BLESSED UNIZIK”. He stated that the members of the Union play a pivotal role in administrative functions of all Units, Directorates, Departments and Faculties in the University.
Udoh also disclosed that their members belong to professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Secretarial Staff which has helped the members to refine their mode of service delivery and duties with approvals and encouragement from the institution’s management. He stated that the Union is solidly behind the Ag. VC and will support his administration in its quest to take the institution to higher heights.
Responding, UNIZIK Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ikechebelu thanked the Association for the visit and support to his administration. The Acting Vice-Chancellor highlighted his administration’s short term goal of HPS Squared Philosophy which translates to ‘Happy Productive Staff’ and ‘Happy Progressive Students’, the Ag. VC disclosed that his administration need prayers and support of all the Unions in moving UNIZIK to greater heights.
Prof. Ikechebelu also disclosed that Secretarial Staff are important in every unit as they play a crucial role in speeding up administrative processes which is why they should be commended for the nature of the services they render to the institution. The scholar further disclosed that he runs an open door policy and open to advices and suggestions all geared towards taking the institution to greater heights.
In a vote of thanks, Comrade Helen Ukachukwu thanked the Acting Vice-Chancellor for receiving the Executives, she reassured the institution’s Chief Executive of the association’s support towards the actualization of his vision and short term aspirations.
In recognition of his leadership, the association presented Professor Ikechebelu with a congratulatory plaque.
