Edo State Government Holds Queenly Reception For NWFL Champions,

…..Rewards Each Player With One Million Naira

It was all smiles in the camp of Edo Queens on Thursday 30th of May, 2024 as Coaches, Players and Admin Staff were rewarded for their hard work of winning the NWFL Super Six thereby being crowned Nigerian Champions for the first time in their history.

The event which took place at the Edo State Government House, after the trophy presentation by the team to the Executive Government of Edo State Godwin Obaseki witnessed a huge turnout from teeming Supporters of the NWFL Champions.

In his remark, the Chairman of Edo State Sports Commission Mr. Yusuf Ali said that the support from the State Government made the difference for the team in this years super six competition. He said that every Memo that was sent to the Governor for the team’s sake was approved in no time.

On his part, Coach Moses Aduku thanked God Almighty for the opportunity of winning this competition, he said that a lot was said to him after he left his former role as the Coach of Bayelsa Queens who were at the verge of playing the WAFU ZONE “B” Competition to manage Edo Queens who had never won the League in their history.

He thanked the Governor and his Wife Mrs. Betsy Obaseki for their support towards the team by providing everything that was needed for the team success in Bayelsa State. But he also used the opportunity to request for a proper preparation by going into early camping with the team in other to have the best chance of winning the upcoming WAFU ZONE “B” Competition. Because the next goal of the team will be to make the country proud by going all the way on the continent.

The Governor Godwin Obaseki in his speech thanked God for a day like this and the Players for bringing joy to Edo State people by winning the League title for the first time in 29 years.

The fulfilled Governor added that every money spent on the team since he came into office have been justified by the team’s latest success. Having admitted to not paying enough attention to the team due to other engagements available to him, he thanked the Coach Moses Aduku despite being a Bayelsan for choosing to work with Edo Queens when he was called upon and making these young ladies champions.

As a means of rewarding the team for their heroic performance, he promised the players the sum of a Million Naira each, Coaches Five Million Naira, Administrative Staff Five Million Naira and the Supporters Club were not left out as they were also rewarded with the sum of Two Million, Five Hundred Naira. He also promised to review and increase the match allowances of the players.

Edo Queens will be looking at improving their team before the commencement of the regional competition after they return from their mini break.
