All is now set for the Career Development Summit for all students of Mass Communication Department, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
The event scheduled to hold on Thursday 25th April, 2024 at the Main Auditorium, UNIZIK, Awka, will commence by 9.00am.
In a press release signed by the Head, Department of Mass Communication, UNIZIK, Awka, Dr. Chioma Agbasimelo, the Career Development Summit is aimed at enlightening the students on the diverse career opportunities available to them in the proposed unbundled Mass Communication Curriculum to be domiciled in the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies.
“The event is conceived based on the understanding that although the current students may not have the benefit of doing their undergraduate studies under the new curriculum, the realities of the field of practice within which they will practice largely reflect the specializations embodied by novel curriculum”, she explained.
According to the Chairman, planning committee of the Career Development Summit, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, the event will be chaired by Prof. Chinwe Uzochukwu, while Barr. Dr. Valentine Obienyem will be the Keynote speaker, and the Lead Paper will be presented by the DVC Academic, Paul University, Awka, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna.
The Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Charles Okechukwu Esimone, FAS, will be the Chief Host, while the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Frank- Collins Okafor is the Co-Host and the Head, Department of Mass Communication, UNIZIK, Awka, Dr. Chioma Agbasimelo is the Host.
Dr. Odogwu noted that resource persons have been drawn from the eight new Departments expected in the proposed unbundled Mass Communication Curriculum, including the MD/CEO, Sky TV Productions & Entertainment, Mr. Elvis Ohanyere; the MD/CEO, Soltec Engineering, Engr. Emmanuel Opurum; Mr. Emeka Monye of Arise News; and the MD/CEO, Anambra State Signage and Advertising Agency, Mr. Odili Ujubuonwu.
Others are: the Dean, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Madonna University, Okija, Associate Prof. Ngozi Morah, the Director, UNIZIK 94.1FM, Prof. Ifeoma Dunu; the Acting Head, Information & Public Relations Unit, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Mrs Chika Eneh; the Head, Television Unit, ABS, Awka, Mrs Ify Unachukwu; and Comrade Aloysius Attah of the Sun Newspaper.
All Undergraduates, Continuing Education Programme, CEP students and Post Graduate students of the Department are expected to partake in the summit.
