Imo Sports Commission Boss,  Ogbonna Says State Sports Festival, Principal Cup, Others To Start Soon.

In line with the vision of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Imo state, Distinguished Senator Hope Odidika Uzodinma “Onwa Oyoko” in taking Imo to the next level of development including the sports sector, the Imo State Sports Commission has concluded plans on programmes that would not just unearth the next generation of sports stars but also ensure that grassroots sports development is taken to all door steps.

These imperative move by the Imo State Sports Commission under the guidance of a sports professor, Prince Sir Eleazar Onyewuchi Ogbonna “Ambassador” will have Imolites wittnessing sports fiesta that will be characterized with avalanche of sports activities to harness sports talents in all sports including, Athletics, Swimming, Cycling, Basketball, Volleyball, Handball Hockey, Boxing, Wrestling, Taekwondo, Karate, Scrabble, Badminton, Cricket, Abula, Football among many other sports that Imo state has comparative advantage.

Speaking to Imo Sports Commission Media shortly after the final of the Gov Uzodimma’s Victory Cup, Prince Ogbonna revealed that plans are in advanced stage to ensure that the various Sports Associations are on the same page with the mission and vision of the Commission towards reviving grassroots sports development in Imo adding that they will soon be a seminar for the stakeholders including the Coaches, Sports Secretaries, the necessary departments of the Sports Commission as well as the School Sports and School authorities both Private and Public to ensure that the sports fiesta is a success.

“We have just successfully ended an appreciation tournament for our dear performing Governor and it’s time to get into the groove of the 3R/Shared Prosperity mantra especially empowering our youths through sports.

“As you already know, His Excellency is already diversifying his empowerment programme for our youths and sports as we also know is the greatest employer of the youths and Imo Sports Commission is poised to help our dear Governor to give to his people the true dividends of democracy particularly in sports.

“We are working round the clock to ensure that sports is revived and that the youths are meaningfully engaged with identified special talents getting a life time opportunity of actualizing their dream of becoming professionals and useful ambassadors of the state.

“We have gotten an MoU to work with Sports Agencies in Europe to interchange and exchange tactical expertise and experiences for development.

“The Commission under my watch is determined to return sports back to glory days and creat next generation of super stars that will continue to make Imo proud and we are equally open to work with cooperate organisations and private individuals who may wish to partner the government for progress.
