The Basketball coach of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ms Nkem Lorrita Mbadugha has described her team’s victory over Enugu State University of Technology at the ongoing South East University Games as a birthday gift.

The match played at the basketball court, Nnamdi Azikiwe University ended 33-23 in favour of AE-FUNAI.

Mbadugha who was visibly excited said her boys did so well against their opponents to give her the birthday gift.

“I am so excited. The boys did so well. Today is my birthday and they gave me the best gift”,

“As the competition progresses, l hope they will keep improving. Our aim is to come out victorious at the end of the competition”, she said.

The coach of ESUT team, Ms Angel Ufomadu blamed the absence of her core players for the loss as her young side though with promising basketball talents could not hold the AE-FUNAI team.

“My boys played well. We played without our main players yet they did well. We hope to improve in our subsequent matches”, she stated.

In the first basketball game of the competition, University of Nigeria Nsukka defeated Federal University of Technology Owerri 51-24.

More matches will be played tomorrow from 9.am
