As Rangers record their first home win at home, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, the Technical Adviser, Fidelis Ilechukwu has sent a warm thanks to the state governor, Dr Peter Mbah for ensuring the return of the team to the Cathedral.
Speaking to journalists after his wards made Enugu fans proud with 2-0 win against old rivals Shooting Stars FC, Ilechukwu described coming back to the Cathedral as the greatest gift from the governor.
“We are very happy, because it is our first game at the Cathedral and also a clean sheet. Scoring two goals at the Cathedral and being able to keep it. It shows that the boys understand what it means to play for Rangers. I thank God for that”,
“The boys will get used to the turf. This turf is better than Awka. You can’t compare. I want to say a big thank you to the governor for making it possible for us to return here”,
” We will get more better results both home and away to reciprocate”.
Coach Ilechukwu also appreciated the fans who came out in large numbers to support Rangers. “The crowd is massive. They are the best. With this kind of fans behind you, you just have to get good results”.
Rangers defeated their visitors 3SC 2-0 courtesy of Kalu Nweke who nodded home Kenechukwu Agu’s volley from the left flank 26th minutes into the first half and local boy Chidozie Okorie whose 88 minutes breathtaking shot beat goalkeeper.
In his post match interview, coach of Shooting Stars FC, Gbenga Ogunbote said his boys gave account of themselves except for the goals. “They didn’t play too badly except for the fact that we had no goals to show for it. Nobody will say we were humiliated except for the goals”.
