Charles Egbe’s stunning finish on the stroke of half time was all Solution FC needed to dispatch Osun United in one of the match day four fixtures of the ongoing 2023/24 Nigeria National League (NNL) Conference B played at the Awka City Stadium on Saturday, 9th December 2023.
The lone goal was all the team needed to receive one million Naira promise the governor, Prof Charles Soludo made to them on Friday.
The technical crew led by Uche Okagbue made two changes to the team who featured in match day two against Warri Wolves as Charles Egbe and Daniel Okpodi came in for skipper David Okoye and Cosmas Ukoh.
The Solution Boys oozing in confidence should have taken the lead as early as the 7th minute through Chuddy Onyeka’s headed effort from Charles Egbe’s Corner kick but for a last ditch off the line clearance by Aminu Abubakar of Osun United.
Thereafter, it was pretty an end to end stuff from both sides till late on in the first stanza of the game as Charles Egbe’s lobed effort off a rebound after Osun shot stopper Biffo Sulaiman’s save from Best Albangbee’s shot hit the back of the net.
In the second period, the visitors came close to taking the lead 10 minutes from time as the Solution Boys’ defense were caught napping with sloppy play but stand-in skipper and shot stopper Chinedu Nwabueze came to the rescue making a succession of three saves to deny Sodiq Babatunde and Essien Emmanuel for the visitors.
The Solution Boys retreated, kept their cool and composure in the late stages of the game to take all available points and maintained 100 percent record and clean sheet at home.
Reacting after the match, Head Coach of Solution FC, Uche Okagbue described the game as a tough one while commending Osun United for the display, he however praised his charges for the composure and discipline to grind out the needed win.
The gaffer said the team is still work in progress as they will continue to work on the perceived grey areas while shifting their focus now to the next game against Ijebu United FC.
“We are happy that we won today against a good Osun side who came here with a game plan to take a point from this ground. However, we kept our nerves and ensured we played our game by being focused, patient and waiting for the opportunity to strike. We are happy that we got all the points available, we will quickly shift our focus now to the next game which is away from home to Ijebu United.
“This team is still a work in progress, as it is a team that was assembled under four months and playing in a professional football league such as the NNL. We will continue to work on the side and perceived grey areas as we know that we will eventually come good in all departments of the game,” Okagbue said.
Solution FC next match is on the road against Ijebu United FC billed for Saturday, 16th December 2023 at the Dipo Dina Stadium Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
