The Kanu Nwankwo led People’s Elephant, Enyimba FC have continued to disappoint it’s doubters with steady climb on the league table.
Recall that after some disappointing outings in both the CAF Champions League qualifiers as well the inaugural African Football League AFL, some doubters never trusted the ability of Kanu Papilo Nwankwo to navigate affairs of the 9 time league champions and 2 time CAF Champions League winners.
Not deterred by those set backs, the former Ajax and Arsenal legend ably supported by some of his colleagues in the management team including the likes of Uche Okechukwu “Gentle Giant”, Ifeanyi Ekwueme as well as Coach Finidi George as technical adviser have continued to believe in the integration of young and talented players with the mission and vision of building a formidable structure that can sustain the clubs ambition and pedigree.
The impressive posting of the The People’s Elephant immediately after losing their double away games at Kano and Gombe, the league defending Champions have since secured a three unbeaten run that includes, 1-0 against Lobi Stars, a 2-1 win over Insurance FC and a first league victory over Oriental arch rival, Heartland FC (0-1 at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri on Saturday).
The club Chairman on several occasions have reiterated his administration’s desire and resolve to groom players who will later become the pillars and basic structure of the club among many other fundamental requirements that makes a club truly professional.
The win over Naze Millionaires in Owerri which also serves as a befitting birthday present to Enyimba’s Sporting Director, Ifeanyi Ekwueme who before the encounter, secured over 30 free tickets for the fans to inspire their support for the club is another interesting side of the NPFL match day 10.
Enyimba returnee, Steven Chukwude rose from the bench to give the Aba Landlords the winner at the 81st minute of play
Enyimba now have 16 points from 9 games with one game in hand which will be against Remo Stars this Wednesday as victory can see the defending champions climb the league table for the first time.
