Anambra State Youth President of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) and Director General of Anambra Agricultural Youths’ Investment Program (AAYIP), Chisom Tim Onugha has declared their steadfastness to create more economic value through agriculture.
He stated this during the unveiling of AAYIP Chefs Pride Palm Oil and Concept Handbook in Awka.
Mr Onugha explained that the event signifies another new beginning for a progressive turning point in engagements of youths in agriculture and socio- economic development history of Anambra State and Nigeria in general.
“Young people need to do the needful and support the government of Anambra State, led by Prof Charles Soludo,” he said.
Chairman of the occasion, Chief Alex Obiogbolu applauded the youths for their effort towards agricultural development in the state.
He said: “I am quite impressed of what youths are doing in Nigeria. You have done great, you will reap and become millionaires. My hope is that you will be role models for youths coming up to know that there is no gain in crime.”
Also speaking, HRH Igwe Emeka Ilouno (Igwe Dunu) encouraged the youths and called on government to support agriculture in order to eliminate hunger, even as he enjoined the people to farm around their houses, as most crops are medicine.
Anambra State Head of Service, Ms Theodora Iguegbe commended the group and also advised people to embark on agriculture, as she said: “I have a farm. I want to encourage everyone here, in one little way or the other to engage in farming.”
She urged the members to keep up the good work stating that Anambra State Government showed interest in agriculture by distributing palm and coconut seedlings.
On his own part, Chairman Ohaneze Ndigbo, Anambra State Chapter, Obi Chukwuemekalum Udodeme said: “I am here in solidarity to young farmers. I noticed that they are all graduates, they have given themselves work. I am happy that the youths are responding to what Ohaneze is preaching.”
He thanked organizers for finding him worthy of an award as patron; and promised to partner with them. He further pointed out the need for farm settlement as it was in the era of M.I. Okpala.
Dignitaries also came from federal and state ministries.
Highlights of the event included special recognition of outstanding agro entrepreneurs, promoters of AAYIP/AFAN, exhibition of agro products and produce.
