Peace Football Club of Awka over the weekend began their chase for the one million naira prize money of the Betnaija Anambra League with a 2-1 victory over rival Edel FC at the Awka City Stadium.
The Awka Giants had a tough time subduing the Nnewi Warlords who had the first cut through Promise Onuoha who found the net at the resumption of the second half.
It took the effervescent duo of Ebuka Okoye and Chukwudera Nweke to change the narrative of the game to favour Peace FC in the later part of the second half.
Speaking to Newspathfinder after the game, an overjoyed coach of Peace FC, Michael Okoi described the victory as divine thanking God for the opportunity to start the competition on a victory note.
“I thank God for this victory. It is a hard earned victory. The game was tough as we played against a strong team with a lot of experiences having played in top tournaments and league”,
“But my boys put up a good fight. They didn’t allow them do what they planned. We pressed them down well and utilized our chances”,
“Our dream is going to the finals and winning the championship. I thank the fans for their massive support which motivated the boys in the field of play. We promise not to disappoint them”.
For the Assistant Coach of Edel FC, Odogwu Anthony, the bitter pill of defeat was hard to swallow because according to him the competition is knock out.
“It is very painful because the competition is knock out. We prepared very well for this competition. The boys prepared well. Just that they have played a lot of matches recently and that affected them”,
“A little wind of lack of concentration led to the second goal in particular. They came up with a better game in the second half. Though somebody has to win, somebody has to lose, it is very painful that we are the losing side”.
I love Peace Fc and will be a die hard fan of them…. Up the Coach Michael…. I love and celebrate u sir
