Still soothing their wounds after a disappointing outing at the Pantami Stadium against Gombe United last weekend, Captain of NPFL Champions, Somairi Alalibo has expressed confident Enyimba will secure their first league victory against Akwa United on Sunday.
Speaking to the People’s Elephant media after their Friday training session, Alalibo who acknowledged that the encounter won’t be an easy one said he and his team mates understand what it means to defend the club’s badge adding that they have trained well enough to get the job done come Sunday.
“The game won’t be an easy one because we’ve played them during the preseason and i know they would come prepared but I believe we would come out with the maximum points.
“The boys are ready, we’ve really put in enough work after a disappointing weekend and we understand what it means to defend the club’s badge. We are ready for the encounter and we call on the fans to come out en mass and support us.
Meanwhile, the clubs Assistant Coach, Olarewaju Yema has insisted that the absence of Coach Finidi Geaorge won’t affect the team’s search for 3 points.
He noted that it’s all about the teams philosophy and the hunger to play the way the club has always played irrespective of the opposition and competition.
“We know they are hunting for points but we won’t disappoint ourselves, the fans and the club. We would put in all our best to pick all three points.
“We are still playing same philosophy even in his absence and it’s all about what Enyimba represents and we don’t play to lose even if it’s a friendly game, Continental or in the League, the focus is always to win.
Recall that Coach Finidi is away with the Super Eagles in Portugal for Nigeria’s international friendly against the Green Falcons of Saudi Arabia played on Friday.
Enyimba has met with Akwa United 22 times since 2012 and has come out victoriously 8 times losing 7 times to the Promise Keepers while both sides have had 7 draws.
In recent meetings, the Aba side lost to the Uyo based side 1-0 in Uyo and drew 0-0 in Aba last season but got the better of them 1-3 at their back yard in Uyo in a preseason game few weeks before the season kicked off.
The People’s Elephant who are stuck at the bottom of the log will on Sunday at the Enyimba Int’l Stadium, Aba hope to get the better of Akaw United for their first league point and victory.
