AthIetics pundits and Delta state sports officials rejoiced after Treasure Ngozi Okereke topped the girls 400m race at National Youth Games AthIetics event.

The event was the highlight of the day and the spectators at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, were on the edge of their seats as Okereke and the other girls battle for supremacy.

Okereke who had earlier on ran the fastest time in the 200m semi-finals, powered home from the last curve to finish at 55.53secs, while Easter Kelechi of Imo placed second with 56.35secs, Julia O. Taiwo of Ondo was third with 57. 05.

The boys race was even more explosive with petite Michael Aniche dominating proceedings, he was chased down to the finish by his Rivers State counterpart Daniel Caleb. Aniche finished at 50.38 secs, while Daniel settled for the silver with 50.47. Bright Faith Umbotidem was third with 51.25secs.

“We are excited by the performance of Treasure Okereke, she has potential to win multiple sprint and relay medals here,” coach Seigha Porbeni.

“It is another athletics talent we are looking at and as always Delta

Today’s AthIetics events highlights 10 finals in Long jump boys and girls, Relays, and many more as heavy down pour in Asaba on Thursday evening led to the postponement of the boys and girls long jump finals earlier primed for yesterday.
