Athletes trying to claim Under-15 at the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State have come under the hammer of Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).

The Federation disqualified many athletes who chose the wrong path of falsifying their age.

One of such athlete was Orisunayo Mailik Shuaib from Ogun State whose participation caused a stir.

Shuaib had participated in the 2021 games. He claimed to have been born in 2008 and here in Asaba he put his date of birth at 2009.

“We thoroughly investigated the case of Shuaib and discovered that he is not eligible to participate,’ said AFN technical director Samuel Onikeku.

“He has been disqualified from the competition, just like many others who are found to be over aged.”

Meanwhile the athletics event is progressing with Delta and Edo States dictating the pace. The semi-final of the 400m and heats of the 4x100m were decided ahead of the finals billed for the final day.

Meanwhile, Gombe State Athletics Academy representative Mohammed won a bronze medal in para AthIetics T-46 event bringing the total number of medals to two.
