The Delta State Sports Commission Chairman Chief Tonobok Okowa has charged all participants to say no to drugs if they must be counted among Future Champions.
Chief Okowa made this remarks while delivering his address at the 7th National Youth Games flag-off on Saturday in Asaba Delta State.
He noted that as future champions, saying no to drug temptations would further their sporting career just like their predecessors in sports.
While he expressed optimism in the state of the art sports facilities Delta State has assembled for the Youth Games, Okowa also enjoined AthIetes take advantage of it and excel in their individual events.
“Youth Games play an important role in sports development as it also provides the platform for Athletes discovery and constitutes the pool from which AthIetes are groomed to represent the country at international competitions” he said.
Chief Okowa who also doubles as the AthIetics Federation of Nigeria (AFN)boss, welcomed all participants and urged Team Delta to win for the state and give him a parting gift as this would be his last Youth Games as the Sports Commission’s helmsman.
Meanwhile, Delta State governor Rt.Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori commended the Delta Sports Commission team for packaging and giving the National Youth Games a bright head-start.
