Asaba 2023: Team Edo Grabs First Gold Medal, Bronze In Cycling

It was excitement galore in the cycling camp of Team Edo, as their athletes are the first to win Gold and Bronze medals for Edo state in the ongoing 7th National Youth Games (NYG) tagged “Asaba 2023”.

The team won the medals in the
40Km Road race cycling event
in the female category on Sunday.

Young cyclist Divine Ogbe of Edo beat strong opposition Atanda Damola Hikmat from Kwara to win the gold medal, while her teammate Osaretin Godwin, settled for the Bronze medal.

Speaking with newsmen after the race, little Divine Ogbe who was emotional with the tears of joy, dedicated her victory to her teammate Osaretin and her coaches.

“I thought I was not going to make it. I want to say thank you to my teammate, Osaretin and our coaches. The contest was not easy.” She said.

In the Handball event,team Edo came out stronger than team Plateau with 21-15 victory in their first match to qualify for the quarter finals. #
