Parents have been enjoined to be a watch dog for their children in order to eliminate crime and drug abuse among the youths.
The advice was given by the Director, Adorable Foundation International, Mayor Chigozie Nwizu, while ddressing participants at the recently held grand opening of the foundation.
He equally advised young people to respect their parents and elderly in the society to enjoy the godly blessings of long life and others.
The Director comdemed the reckless use of illicit drugs amongst youths which he said is harmful to the body and increases crime in the society.
He explained that the vision and mission of the organization includes to be a foremost philanthropist organization that seeks to deliver good livelihood, empowerment, and render assistance to the less privileged, vulnerable of all ages, classes, tongues, tribes and drug addicts.
It also has the mandate to facilitate access to sustainable means of livelihood and contributes to a better society.
According to Mayor Nwizu, AFI has been in existence for more than 10 years campaigning against drug abuse , empowering the youths and helping them set their records straight
In her keynote address Ms Lillian Eze, a member of AFI defined drug abuse as the excessive or addictive use of drugs for non medical purposes.
She named commonly abused drugs to include cannabis, cocaine, amphetamine, heroin, diazepam, codeine, cough syrup and tramadol.
Also speaking, the President General Utu Development Union in Nnewi South local Government Area of Anambra state Prof. Synado Ezeojidi and one of the dignitaries that graced the occasion Chief Chibueze Igwe advised the youths to disengage in abuse of drugs and live a life worthy of emulation.
At the end of the event 20 members were rewarded for being dedicated to the Foundation.
