The coach of Coal City FC, Mr Starplus Izuikem Anistar says his team’s inability to convert their chances to win the game against Ona Pal FC in the ongoing Tico Select Preseason tournament is a minus in their plan to move forward in the championship.

Speaking with Newspathfinder, Coach Anistar said his team didn’t plan to draw having lost to Enyimba in their previous game.

“We didn’t come here to draw, because the draw is not good for us. We lost our first game against Enyimba and these guys that we played today, they drew against Enyimba so we needed to win this game to have an edge before going into our next match”,

“Unfortunately, the boys couldn’t convert the chances they created and our opponents being an experienced side refused to come out to play the second half. And a lot of details, falling down, time wasting and all that. So I really love the push that the boys gave to get the win. Even though they didn’t get the win there’s a lot of positives that we’ll take from the game going forward so it is a good preseason game for us”, he said

He said going forward, the team will strive to get a win before leaving Uyo. “Definitely we are not leaving Uyo with one point, we need to redeem our image, we need to score goals. We haven’t scored any goals in our last two matches. In the next game we are coming all out to win our match and take some points home that’s our plan”, he hopes.

He commended the organizers of the tournament for their efforts. “It’s a wonderful tournament, well organized tournament. I appreciate the organisers. Tico select is a brand we know”,

“We know Ifeanyi Ekwueme who has been organising this over the years in different states. For him to be able to bring teams together from the NNL and the Premier league to prepare themselves ahead of the season is commendable”,

“we call for more like this especially in the south east and south south because those in the South West and North started doing this early on. They started preseason games and have played more than three games”,

“That’s why when we have this opportunity here we really grabbed it with both hands and say let’s come and prepare ourselves for the new season. So we really need more people like Tico select, Ekwueme and his organisers to do more things like this for us”, he said
