The Assistant Coach of Enyimba FC, Mr Olariwaju Yema and Striker Joseph Atule have apologized to the fans and supporters of the Aba based team over their failure to advance to the next stage of the CAF Champions League.
Enyimba International on Sunday failed to defeat visiting Al-Ahly Benghazi in Aba despite their sterling records in Libya where they narrowly lost 3-4.
They failed to build more on the away goals the team scored in Libya, playing out a goalless draw with Al Ahly Benghazi in the prestigious CAF Champions league second leg first round knockout tie.
With the first leg result, the People’s Elephant needed an outright win to ensure passage into the next round but all the ball possessions and barrage of attacks mounted by the Aba Landlords yielded only breathtaking near misses.
Speaking to journalists after the encounter, Coach, Yema said the boys gave their best but that it wasn’t enough without the much needed goal.
According to him, the opponents obviously came with a perfect defensive game plan which somehow worked out for them adding that the boys really tried to break it as he praised them for putting a spirited effort both at Libya and in Aba few weeks after regrouping from the break.
Coach Yema who expressed his disappointment especially on how they failed to make the huge crowed happy with a win and qualification into the next round promised that they will channel all energy and attention now to the league which commences in two weeks time.
Also speaking Striker, Atule Joseph apologized to the fans who turned up in large numbers promising that the team would aim to compensate for the disappointment with better results when the league starts.
Al Ahly Benghazi player, Ali Yousuf who spoke for the Libyan team said it was truly a difficult encounter for them adding that they however worked hard with a defensive game plan to get a hard earned draw from a very big team in Africa like Enyimba FC.
He commended Nigerian fans especially, Enyimba supporters for their good conduct and support to football.
