The Anambra State Government says it is working to deliver about two hundred and fifty kilometers of completed roads by the end of 2023.

The Commissioner for Works, Mr Ifeanyi Okomma stated this during an interview shortly appearing before the House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts.

According to him, Governor Chukwuma Soludo is not relenting in making sure that he delivers on the promises made to the people of the state during his inauguration about prudent management of available resources.

Mr Okomma listed some of the roads that are expected to be completed by the end of the year to include the Amansea- Ebenebe, Ugbene- Ugbenu- Awba ofemili project, Amansea Ndiukwuenu- Awa- Ufuma road, most of the roads in Onitsha , Ugoezechi road in Dunukofia among others.

The Commissioner for Works explained that work on the Amansea Ndiukwuenu- Awa- Ufuma road was stopped because of the weather occasioned by heavy rains and that the contractor will no doubt complete the asphalting as soon as the sunny days return.

Speaking on the ongoing construction work within Okpuno community, the Works Commissioner said the Anambra State government was not happy with the slow pace by the firm handling the project.

The Chairman House Committee on Public Accounts , Mr Noble Igwe said the essence of the oversight was to ensure that the Ministries , Departments and Agencies followed due process and excited the projects that monies were meant for .

Our correspondent reports that the Public Accounts Chairman and other members of the committee went through the Audited account of the Ministry of Works for the year ended December 2022 and noted that there is no discrepancy as there is judicious use of funds made available.
