The Onitsha City Marathon has been described as an event that will change the narratives of the city and the orientation for the residents.

This was stated by the chairman of the Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Chief Patrick Estate Onyedum while speaking at the unveiling ceremony of the Race Partners at Onitsha recently.

The Chairman said that Onitsha being a commercial city close-knit to business activities will experience breathe of fresh air with the international marathon as everything is not money.

According to him, the 21 kilometers race will equally take the state to another level positively as it will bring a turn around in economy, connecting all the dots of developlopment.

As a former athlete and member of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) who worked with a committee that handled successful marathons in Nigeria, Chief Onyedum charged the organizers to ensure team work which he said is the ticket to successful event.

While assuring of the state government support, he called on good spirited individuals to support the organizers as the event will place the name of the state on the global map.

Earlier, the Executive Director, Onitsha City Marathon, Prof Olusegun Sogbesan had announced that the race which comes up in September is forerunner of the prestigious Ofalla festival of the Onitsha kingdom.
