The Imo state government has appointed former Super Eagles International Ifeanyi Ekwueme Head Coach of the state Sports Commission.
Ekwueme who confirmed the appointment to newsmen at the Awka Township stadium in Anambra state said he is now also the Head of Technical of the Imo state Sports Commission.
He thanked Imo state Sports Commission boss Prince Ebenezer Ogbonna who gave him the appointment through His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodinma Governor, imo state
He said his track record and consistency in football activities across the country no doubt attracted him to the Governor of the state , Senator Hope Uzodimma.
The Ex Super Eagles International said he has already kick started a programme tagged, Heartland Talent Hunt aimed at discovering grassroots skills for the round leather game.
According to him, the selected players will soon be traveling to Valencia , Spain where they will play five matches before returning home.
He revealed that the governor had directed that five players from the Heartland feeder Team be discovered and included in the team that will get out to Spain by June or July this year.
Ekwueme used the medium to commend the sporting initiatives in Anambra state since Chikelue Iloenyosi assumed the position of Football Association Chairman in the state.
The Ex Super Eagles player expressed the hope that with support from the Anambra state government, Iloenyosi will do more as he was already bringing to bare his wealth of experience.
Our Correspondent reports that the former player promised to always render support to the FA in the state whenever he is called upon by his fellow ex International, Chikelue Iloenyosi.
