The death of Nigeria’s former central defender and Head coach, Super Falcons Coach Ismaila Mabo has continued to attract expressions of sorrow from football fraternity in Nigeria.
Newspathfinder met one of his former players, former Super Falcons Captain, Maureen Mmadu who joined football family in Nigeria to express deep sorrow over the death on Monday morning of the former passionate Coach of the Senior Women’s National Team.
Coach Maureen Mmadu whose female football team will trade tackle on Friday against the Rising Stars FC in the ongoing NEROS Anambra FA Cup spoke Newspathfinder in Awka.
The former Green Eagles player, Pa Ismaila Mabo steered the Super Falcons to the quarter-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in the USA in 1999.
According to reports he died at 80 after a protracted illness.
“The death of Pa Ismaila Mabo came to me as a huge shock. Again, we have lost a great man and an accomplished trainer-of-trainers in the Nigeria Football fraternity”
“I am pained and heartbroken to say the least because he inspired me a lot as a player and a coach. He was a great coach, our hero, our legend and our daddy. No word is enough to describe him. He will forever be in our hearts”,
“I want to use this opportunity to once again to thank him for what he did in football in Nigeria especially women football”,
“I am oppotuned to be among the generation of players that passed through him. He will really be missed”,
“My prayer and condolences go to the family he left. May your soul rest in perfect peace daddy”, she prayed.
