Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Nasarawa State, Amb. Lucky Isaac Yargwa, has been inducted into the “WHO-IS-WHO-IN-NASARAWA STATE-HALL-OF-FAME.
At the 2nd edition of the “WHO-IS-WHO-IN-NASARAWA STATE-HALL-OF-FAME” ceremony held on Sunday, 19th February, 2023, at the Ta’al Conference Hotel, Lafia,
organisers of the Event, African Image Ventures, said the decision to confer the Commissioner with the exalted certificate was borne out of his meritorious service to Nasarawa State and the society in general.
Represented by his wife, Mary Yargwa, the Commissioner appreciated organisers of the programme for finding him worthy for the recognition.
He said the award would not have come through had he not been given the platform by Governor Abdullahi Sule to serve in his administration.
Yargwa thanked the Governor for believing in his capacity and capability to function in his Government for the success of his administration and State at large.
The Commissioner also appreciated Management and Staff of the State’s Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and other critical stakeholders for their continuous support to him to succeed.
He noted that the award would encourage him to work harder to meet up with the mandate of his appointment.
First to be inducted into the Hall of Fame was Governor Abdullahi Sule. Others include former Governor, Senator Umar Tanko Al-Makura; Executive Chairman of NASENI, Engr. Prof. M.S. Haruna, to mention but a few.
High point of the Event was the presentation and launching of a book titled: “WHO IS WHO IN NASARAWA STATE” authored by Mr. Nicholas Kwanta.
In another development, Permanent Secretary of the Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Isah Mohammed Eyah, has called on youth to shun drug abuse and intake of illicit substances.
The Permanent Secretary made the call at a one-day National Sensitisation Workshop on Elimination of Drug Abuse organised by the office of the Federal (Nigeria’s)Minister of Youth and Sports Development held on Wednesday, 15th February, 2023, at the Ibrahim Abacha Youth Centre, Lafia.
Participants who were drawn from across boards dwelt on the programme’s subject matter, “Effects of Drug Abuse Among Young People”.
Eyah applauded the Minister, Sunday Dare, and Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development for initiating the sensitisation campaign, saying it would go a long way in guaranteeing a drugs-free society.
“This workshop is coming at the time the Federal Government has a renewed commitment towards developing a drugs-free society in line with the United Nations’ Office on Drugs and Crimes.
“Drug abuse remains one of the critical challenges facing young people in Nigeria today.
“This illicit practice causes one of the worst health-related problems among the Nigerian youth and has been a source of concern to national and international stakeholders.
“Drug abuse places significant threat to the social, economic, and health fabrics of families, societies and the nation in general.”
While thanking the State’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development and Nasarawa State Government for working together with the Federal team of experts to ensure the success of the workshop, the Permanent Secretary assured that the State Government would join hands with relevant bodies to formulate appropriate policies and measures that would lead to the complete elimination of drug abuse among young people in the country.
