The 2004 and 2008 sets of the Alumni Association of the Department of Mechanical Engineering have remodeled the Conference rooms and some offices of Professors of the Department.
This development was made known to the media by the Head of Department (HOD), Engr. Jerry Chukwuneke.
In a guided visit to the Conference room of the Department led by the HOD in company of other scholars, Dr. Chukwuneke revealed that the remodelling of the conference room and equipping of some staff offices was facilitated by the Alumni Sets of 2004 and 2008.
He also disclosed that other members of the Alumni have promised to provide ICT gadgets such as smart televisions and iPads.
Dr. Chukwuneke revealed that the alumni furnished the Head of Department’s office and that of the current Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Chinonso Achebe.
Some of the facilities provided are Complete Conference tables for the Conference room, 30 pieces of seats for the Conference room and one Projector for the Conference room.
Other provisions are complete set of Executive tables and chairs for the HOD’s office, complete set of sofa for HOD’s office, complete set of sofa and window blinds for Prof. Achebe’s office.
The HOD thanked the alumni for their immense support to the Department, stating that the timing of the provision was apt as the Department was preparing for the upcoming accreditation exercise.
He said that the Department remains grateful for their act of magnanimity as it will go a long way in energizing academics not just for the Department but for the Faculty and institution at large.
Highpoints of the occasion was prayer said for the continuous growth of the Department by the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and emeritus professor of the Department, Prof. Sam Omenyi.
Present during the occasion was the Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Joseph Nwabanne; Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Chinonso Achebe; Alumni Coordinator of the Department, Engr. Paul Okolie, a host of professors and top scholars of the Department, teaching and non-teaching staff members.
