UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, has inaugurated a committee on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in anticipation of the 2023 African International School on Development of Vacuum Technology in Nanosciences and Nanotechnology Research (2023 AISDVTNNR).
The inauguration which took place at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference room on Friday, 23rd December 2022 is headed by the Special Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on Land and Natural Resources Management, Prof. Peter Nnabude.
In his address, Prof. Esimone appreciated members of the committee, more importantly, Canada based Prof. Dan Obi, Prof. Emeka Ezeonu and Prof. Peter Nnabude for championing a course which kick-started some five years ago but could not take off owing to some challenges.
Prof Esimone informed that the takeoff will be a springboard for the establishment of a standard institute in UNIZIK for research on Nanosciences and Nanotechnology.
The Vice-Chancellor opined that globally Nanoscience has revolutionized as there has been accomplishments in different areas cutting across various disciplines including legal profession which harps on Nanotechnology Law and ethical matters.
He also revealed that the members of the committee were painstakingly selected owing to their display of commitment, doggedness, hardwork and innovations in their field of endeavour. He called on the committee members to focus on the task ahead in order to achieve the goals and objectives for which the committee was set up.
On his part, the Chairman of the Committee Prof. Peter Nnabude disclosed that the committee has held her inaugural meeting with members inundated on the task ahead.
He stated that the committee will work towards having the first workshop in the aftermath of the 2023 General Elections.
In a vote of thanks, the Head, Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, Dr. Uche Ekpunobi thanked the Vice-Chancellor for finding them worthy to be part of the committee.
Dr. Ekpunobi said she and the other members of the committee will work in line with the guidelines and ethos towards achieving the result for which the committee was set up in the first instance.
Other members of the committee are Dr. Ik Onyenwe (Computer Science Dept.), who will serve as the Secretary of the committee; Prof. Stan Udedi (Biochemistry Dept.); Engr. Dr. (Mrs) Chika Mgbemena (Industrial and Production Engineering Dept); Engr. Dr. Azubuike Aniedu (Electronics and Computer Engineering Dept.); Engr. Frank Ekwempu; Engr. Prof. Orakwe (Agricultural Engineering) and Dr. Tochukwu Onyeyili (Department of Psychology).
