The Member Representing Anambra East constituency in the State House of Assembly, pharmacist Obinna Emeneka, has called for more designated camps for flood victims in the area especially those in Igbariam Community.
The law maker made the call when he visited some of the holding camps and communities being ravaged by flood in the area .
Newspathfinder correspondent reports that the lawmaker donated bags of rice, one hundred cartons of noddles, drugs as well as an ambulance that would be used in the camps in the case of any emergency situation till the flood recedes.
In his quest to give his people quality representation, the member representing Anambra East, Mr Emeneka decided to visit flood victims in Anambra East, Anambra West and Onitsha North Local Government Areas of the state.
Upon arrival at Igbariam community, the law maker was received by many of the victims whose houses and farmlands have been submerged in water.
Ijele Omambala, as he is fondly called, after visiting the affected areas, regretted that the disaster has left the people more backward.
He however encouraged them to be strong and hold on as he would be presenting their conditions to the government even as he harped on the need for private individuals to urgently assist in providing succor to them.
Emeneka emphasized the need for relevant authorities including the Federal government to designate more holding camps to cushion the effects of the flood disaster as some of the victims could not move to the already existing ones, which are considered too far.
The Member representing Anambra East also toured other camps at Umueri, Umuoba Anam, Aguleri, and Onitsha where he expressed shock over the poor condition of the flood victims who were mostly starved.
The philanthropist donated drugs, bags of rice, cartons of noddles and an ambulance which would be used for any emergency situation in the camps until they go back to their respective homes.
Pharmacist Emeneka who is also PDP candidate for Anambra East and West Federal constituency for the 2023 general elections , also announced that free medical attention would be given to anyone who falls sick during their stay in the camps.
The flood victims mostly women, children and aged ones, thanked the law maker for coming to identify with them in their trying moments while calling for more assistance from the government especially in the provision of food and medicals.
The President General of Umuoba Anam, Chief Victor Mgboba and representative of the President General of Igbariam community, Chief Emeka Akwuba commended the law maker for the donations which included cash to enable the camp coordinators prepare good meals for the victims.
The Coordinator, Umuoba -Anam holding camp, Mr Nelson Anizor and the Administration Secretary , Father Joseph holding center Aguleri, Mr Alias Ofochebe thanked the law maker for his kind gesture and prayed that others would emulate him .
The medical doctor covering the five holding camps in the area , Chinenye Obi and the Founder, Holy Spirit Pilgrimage Center , Igbariam Very Reverend Father George Nze- Morba while regretting the level of destruction done by the natural disaster, said Nigeria could reduce the impact on its citizen if the leaders were sincere to the people.
Mr Obinna Emeneka was accompanied to the camps by some stakeholders in Anambra East and West constituencies including his Campaign Director General in Anambra East , Chief Emmanuel Ogugua, Chief Ambrose Dibor from Anambra west, Youth Leader in Anambra Weat, Mr Chukwudi Onochie and his Innoma counterpart.
