Academic and non academic staff unions of Anambra State owned Nwafor-Orizu College of Education,Nsugbe named after the First Republic politician and former Senate President, late Akwaeke Nwafor-Orizu are currently creating tension with the aim of pressurising the school management to pay three months salary arrears owed them.
It was alleged that the school management paid the staff their July salary on the first week of August this year.
The management was said to have not given any reason for the discrepancy in the payment of staff salary and the reasons for the delay.
A non academic staff of the institution who did not want his name mentioned for fear of victimisation told our correspondent that the school was now its old self as welfare of staff has often been neglected by the school management ,a situation that is currently generating tension and redundancy among the staff.
It was also gathered that due to improper handling of staff/management relationship it has further resulted to low morale among both the academic and non academic members of the institution.
When our correspondent visited the school yesterday, the Public Relations Officer(PRO) Mr Benjamin Egbunonu was not on seat.
The school environment appeared more like a glorified secondary school with grown bushes around the main administrative building which houses the Provost’s office and other senior staff of the institution.
When contacted on phone, the school PRO , Mr Egbunonu denied the allegation.
He explained that the school management had proved that it values the welfare of its staff by paying the staff promptly and as at when due.
On the whereabouts of the Provost, the school PRO said that the school boss was not in town and there was no need speaking nor meeting her to clarify issues bothering on staff welfare.
