The Executive Governor of Anambra state, Prof. Chales Chukwuma Soludo yesterday 14th September 2022, flagged off the construction of Mmiata -Anam – Nzam Road, in Anambra West Local Government Area of the state.
The 10.95 kilometers road starts from Umueze Anam down to Iyiora -Mmiata -Anam – Nzam. The road will include drainage culverts and one massive Bridge of about 70 metres.
The governor during the Flagg off said that Anambra West is the only Local government in Nigeria whose headquarters is not accessible hence the urgent need to begin the project.
He promised that all efforts will be made to ensure the road is ready for commissioning latest January 2023.
Before handing over the site certificate to the contractor, Governor Soludo revealed that the money for the road project is ready, fifty percent of which will be paid before commencement of the work.
He informed that that efforts are in top gear to facilitate the completion of the federal road linking Anambra to Kogi and Abuja via Umueze Anam in Anambra West.
The federal road if completed will take road travelers less than 4hrs from Anambra to Abuja.
While stating that his administration is very particular about funding projects that will have greater impact on the people, the Governor added that if as phase three of the project Kogi State agree to go into an agreement with the Anambra State, the Onono road will be done, to make going to Abuja a three hours journey opening Anambra West to become a gateway to the North.
Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma, his Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs counterpart, Mr. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, Member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency, Chief Chinedu Obidigwe, among others were present at the occasion.
