The Police Command in Anambra state says that, the deployment of police operatives to the residence of Augustine Ndigwe in Awka, is to make sure there is no break down of law and order in Awka Community.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga explained that the deployment of security to the area followed information of the intended celebration and occasion of New yam festival that poses threat to public peace and disturbance in the community.
Mr Ikenga notes that the situation is being monitored and further development shall be communicated .
The statement also said that one Mr Nwokoye that led attack on police officers is in custody with five other suspects.
It says that the suspects have been transferred to State Criminal investigations department for investigations.
Security operatives had stormed the residence of one Austin Ndigwe after he had planned to celebrate new yam festival while claiming to be the traditional ruler of Awka the Anambra state capital.
An earlier release by the state government described the move as illegal as the only recognized traditional ruler of the community remains His Royal Majesty, Obi Gibson Nwosu who holds certificate of recognition.
