The Agulu community in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, alongside members of the Anambra Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), is mourning the death of Chief Nathaniel Anigbo, former Chairman of the NUJ, Anambra State Council, and former Vice Chairman of the Agulu People’s Union (APU)

Chief Anigbo passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026, after a brief illness, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to journalism and community development.

A statement issued on Wednesday by Dr. Sir Emmanuel Ibeneme, President General of the Agulu People’s Union Nigeria, described Chief Anigbo as “a man of great character, known for his kindness, generosity, and dedication to the Agulu community.”

“The National Executives of Agulu People’s Union Nigeria (APU) are deeply saddened by the passing of Chief Nathaniel Anigbo, former 1st Vice President of APU,” the statement read.

“His contributions to Agulu’s development will be remembered. We commiserate and extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the entire Agulu community.”

During the first meeting of the year of the Anambra Correspondents Chapel on Tuesday, February 3, led by Chief Chuks Ilozue, a glowing tribute was paid to Chief Anigbo, including a minute of silence.

He was described as “the embodiment of knowledge and a peacemaker” whose guidance and mentorship shaped generations of journalists in the state.

Other colleagues remembered him as a consummate professional, a mediator in times of disputes, and a tireless advocate for ethical journalism.

Several members recounted his generosity in supporting young journalists and his commitment to community service in Agulu, reflecting a life devoted to service.

Chief Anigbo’s dedication to both journalism and community service left a lasting impact on the media landscape in Anambra State and the development of his hometown.

The family is expected to announce burial arrangements in due course.
May his soul rest in peace.
